About The Sustainable Fuel Cycle Task Force

MISSION

The Task Force is a new grassroots effort supportive of forging a fresh consensus on key open issues related to a sustainable nuclear fuel cycle for the United States, including:

  • Resolution of back-end disposition
  • Yucca Mountain licensing and funding
  • Closed fuel-cycle approaches advancing recycling
  • Promoting an independent government corporation to meet fuel cycle obligations
  • Waste confidence

OBJECTIVES

  • Develop consensus approaches for resolution of open back-end disposition issues, including support for Yucca Mountain licensing and funding;
  • Advance support for issues related to implementation of a sustainable fuel cycle paradigm in the U.S. including management and organizational reforms, such as the establishment of a government corporation, closed-fuel preprocessing and recycling, waste confidence, regulatory issues and funding reform;
  • Establish new advocacy networks and communications capabilities to provide timely information on key issues to Task Force members;
  • Provide educational information outreach to the new Administration and Congress on the need for urgent action on resolution of outstanding Yucca Mountain and fuel cycle management issues;
  • Serve as a catalyst to activate, inform and organize “outside-the-beltway,” state governors, regulators and local elected officials sharing a common interest;
  • Activate “Thought Leadership” in the scientific and technical community.
